Two lynx, released illegally in the Scottish Highlands, have been captured humanely and are now in quarantine for health assessments
Inverness: So, here’s the scoop. The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland just wrapped up a successful mission to catch two lynx that were let loose in the Scottish Highlands. They were worried these poor cats might not survive out there on their own.
It all kicked off when the Cairngorms National Park Authority gave everyone a heads-up about the lynx. Police Scotland even warned folks to keep their distance if they spotted them. Smart move, right?
Now, these two furry friends are safe and sound in quarantine at the Highland Wildlife Park. They’ll eventually head to Edinburgh Zoo for a health check-up. Fingers crossed they’re doing well!
David Field, the big boss at RZSS, didn’t hold back on how he felt about the illegal release. He called it a reckless move that could have put the animals and the public at risk. Thankfully, they’re in good shape now.
He also gave a shout-out to everyone who helped out, saying that teamwork made a huge difference in getting the lynx back safely. David Barclay, who manages the Saving Wildcats team, shared how they set up cameras and traps to catch the lynx. It was a long night, but totally worth it when they finally got the cats.
After their quarantine, there’s a chance the lynx could return to Highland Wildlife Park, which is pretty close to where they were found. And hey, if anyone knows how these lynx ended up in the area, RZSS is all ears and wants you to reach out to Police Scotland.
