Two lynx, abandoned in the Scottish Highlands, have been safely captured and are headed to Edinburgh Zoo for a 30-day quarantine
Kingussie: So, here’s the scoop! Two lynx that were left behind in the Scottish Highlands have been caught safe and sound. The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) shared the good news.
These two wildcats were spotted after another pair was captured just the day before. It was a real team effort, with Police Scotland and local rangers working together to catch them. They managed to snag the lynx around 6:30 PM on Friday, right near where the first two were caught.
The RZSS mentioned that these lynx seemed to have been abandoned on purpose. They were first seen on camera traps a few days ago, and the team set up humane traps to catch them. Everyone was on high alert, monitoring the area all day.
After the capture, the lynx were taken to the Highland Wildlife Park for a health check. Then, they’ll be moved to Edinburgh Zoo for a month-long quarantine. Dr. Helen Senn from RZSS expressed relief that the lynx are in good health, especially after such a hectic couple of days.
She praised the hard work of everyone involved, saying it’s been a tough 48 hours but the outcome is positive. The team will keep an eye on the area to make sure no more lynx are out there.
Highland Wildlife Park confirmed that these animals were indeed abandoned but reassured everyone that they’re doing well. Meanwhile, the police are still investigating how the lynx ended up in the Highlands and are asking folks to stay away from the area for now.
