Augusta: So, there was a pretty serious situation at Fort Eisenhower over the weekend. An army base went into lockdown after someone was shot and killed.
The whole thing happened at a house on the base, and the operations center confirmed it. Thankfully, they caught the shooter pretty quickly, and the lockdown was lifted about half an hour later.
They sent out a social media alert around 9 AM, telling everyone to lock down. It was a bit alarming, with messages saying, “Lockdown! Lockdown!” and urging people to take action if they felt unsafe.
Fort Eisenhower mentioned they wouldn’t share details about the victim until their family was notified, which is understandable. They confirmed it was an active shooter situation and that a person was shot in on-post housing.
After the shooter was caught, they declared the area safe again and reopened the gates around 9:45 AM. The base is now focusing on supporting the victim’s family and anyone else affected by this tragic event.
Just a little background, Fort Eisenhower was known as Fort Gordon until it was renamed in 2023. It’s home to the US Army Cyber Command, so it’s a pretty important place.
