A man was arrested at the US Capitol with a machete just before Trump’s visit, raising security concerns amid heightened tensions.
The Capitol Police caught him when an X-ray machine picked up the machete. They’re still trying to figure out what he was up to. With everything going on lately, security was already on high alert after a recent threat against Trump.
They found the knives when they searched his bag. The police said he was arrested for carrying dangerous weapons. This all went down just before Trump was meeting with Senate Republicans and later paying respects to former President Jimmy Carter, who was lying in state.
The police nabbed the guy around 2 PM as he was trying to get through security. Officers spotted the machete in his bag, stopped the machine, and took him into custody.
While this was happening, folks were coming in to honor Carter. Security has been tight around the Capitol this week since lawmakers were certifying the 2024 election results.
Oh, and there was another incident too! A guy from Virginia got arrested for trying to set his car on fire near the Grant Memorial. He lit a bag on his car, but it went out before the cops got there. They took him in, and the car was checked out since it looked suspicious.
