A mother shares her harrowing experience of domestic abuse and urges others to seek help
Derbyshire: A mother named Tracey is bravely sharing her story after enduring years of abuse from her ex-partner, Mark Bagworth. She wants to encourage others in similar situations to speak out.
Mark, 55, subjected Tracey to a relentless eight-year campaign of violence and intimidation. He even urinated on their pet rabbit and threw boiling water on her. It’s hard to believe someone could be so cruel.
In August last year, Mark pleaded guilty to assault and harassment, receiving a suspended sentence. Now, 51-year-old Tracey is focused on rebuilding her life and helping others who might be suffering.
She recalls how charming Mark seemed at first, but things took a dark turn about six months into their relationship. He started with small acts of control, like hiding her car keys and damaging her belongings.
Tracey often felt confused and questioned her own sanity. Mark’s abuse escalated, leading to terrifying incidents where he would physically harm her. She felt trapped and ashamed, hiding her injuries from the world.
After years of suffering, Tracey finally found the strength to leave. With support from a domestic violence charity, she reported Mark to the police. She realized she couldn’t live in fear any longer.
Mark’s behavior didn’t change, and he quickly moved on to another relationship. Tracey hopes her story will raise awareness about domestic abuse and encourage others to seek help. There’s support out there, and no one should have to suffer in silence.
If you or someone you know is facing domestic abuse, please reach out for help. You’re not alone, and there are people ready to support you.
