Dallam: Making Space is making waves! They’re up for three awards at the Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards. Categories include Dementia Care, Compassion, and Community Engagement.

These nominations shine a light on their amazing work at The Connect Hub and Café Connect, which used to be known as Warrington Day Service.

These places are all about creating a friendly atmosphere where locals can get info, advice, and support for their mental health.

Since 2014, the Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards have been all about celebrating the best in the not-for-profit care sector.

They recognize the hard work of individuals and teams who truly make a difference in people’s lives.

The Connect Hub and Café Connect have been praised for their commitment to mental wellbeing and community connection through their creative support services.

James Bridgewater, who heads up wellbeing at Making Space, expressed his excitement about the nominations. He said it’s fantastic to see their efforts recognized.

He added that their mission is to enhance the lives of those they support, and it’s a privilege to help the community.

By addressing needs early on, they’re really making a difference and helping to ease the pressure on NHS services.

Located on Allen Street, the hub and café offer a welcoming space for anyone over 18 to get mental health support and practical advice.

The café is also a social hotspot, serving affordable meals and hosting initiatives like the Chatty Café to help combat loneliness.

Making Space has also received more nominations for their services in Doncaster.

Rosemary Stephen is in the running for the Compassion Award for her 30 years of dedicated community support, especially for minority groups.

Janet Griffiths, who leads the Sandalwood Social Centre, is nominated for the Dementia Care Award for her outstanding work in creating a supportive environment for those with dementia.

Keri Smith, the director of development at Making Space, shared her pride in the nominations, highlighting the dedication of their teams.

She also mentioned the café’s refurbishment, funded by their fundraising efforts, which directly benefits the local community.

The Connect Hub and other nominees will find out if they’ve won at a ceremony on March 14 at the Grand Hotel in Birmingham.

This is just one of many successes for Making Space, who are also gearing up for the Great British Care Awards in March.

They recently celebrated wins at the Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care Awards, taking home awards for Third Sector Leader and Inspirational Volunteer.
