A police motorcyclist was struck by a stolen car during a dangerous chase in Southampton, leading to serious charges against the driver.
Southampton: So, there was this wild incident where a police motorcyclist got hit by a stolen car while chasing it down. The guy behind the wheel, Marvin Geddes, ended up getting four years in jail for it.
Apparently, the police were trying to stop his Honda Civic because they thought it had fake plates. Things got crazy fast. Geddes drove like a maniac, going the wrong way on roundabouts and blowing through red lights.
During the chase, Pc Derek Hearn, the motorcyclist, was hit head-on by Geddes. Dash-cam footage showed just how fast the Honda crashed into him. It’s pretty shocking stuff.
After the crash, Geddes didn’t even stick around. He took off running after hitting another car. The police later found out that the Honda was stolen back in March 2023.
Pc Hearn said he felt lucky to be alive and not seriously hurt. He’s just trying to do his job and keep people safe, and it’s scary to think about the risks he faces.
Superintendent Mark Lewis also expressed his shock at the whole situation. He emphasized that no officer should have to deal with such violence while just doing their job. Thankfully, both Pc Hearn and the other driver walked away without serious injuries.
