County Durham drivers should prepare for minor delays due to ongoing road closures this weekend, with some lasting until 2025.
County Durham: Drivers in the area can breathe a little easier. The road closures this weekend are expected to cause only slight delays, usually under 10 minutes.
According to the latest updates from National Highways, two closures are already in effect and will continue this weekend:
First up is the A19, which has been closed since September 18, 2023, and will remain so until May 1, 2025. Expect slight delays on both the north and southbound lanes due to maintenance work.
Then there’s the A1(M), which has lane closures for barrier safety fence work. This closure started on October 3, 2024, and will last until October 3, 2025, also causing slight delays.

Looking ahead, two more closures are set to kick off next week:
The A66 will be closed from January 5 to January 18, with lane closures for Weather Station Renewal works. Again, expect slight delays.
Also, the A1(M) will have a closure from January 6 to January 14 for resurfacing patching works, which will also cause minor delays.
Remember, National Highways takes care of the major roads, so smaller road closures won’t be on their radar.
