The Welsh Government has announced a new task force to strategize the future of Holyhead Port following recent storm damage.
Holyhead: So, the Welsh Government is stepping up to tackle the issues at Holyhead Port. After Storm Darragh hit in December, ferry services were put on hold. It caused quite a stir, especially with the damage to the Irish Ferries terminal.
They’re working on getting things back to normal. Stena Line’s terminal is set to reopen soon, but we’re still waiting on news about the Irish Ferries terminal. It’s a bit of a waiting game right now.
Ken Skates, the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, is leading a new task force. He’s teaming up with Rebecca Evans, the Cabinet Secretary for Economy, to figure out how to make Holyhead Port better for the future. They’re also bringing in folks from the Irish government and other key players in the ferry industry.
Ken mentioned how important it was to keep things moving during the festive season. With so many people needing to travel and goods that had to get to market, they worked hard to find alternative routes. It’s great to see that kind of teamwork.
He also highlighted the long-term importance of Holyhead. They want to ensure it can handle whatever challenges come its way, especially with climate change affecting weather patterns. It’s all about making sure the port can thrive, not just survive.
More details about the task force will be shared soon, and it sounds like they’re keen to get input from everyone involved in the ports and ferry industry. It’s a big step towards securing a bright future for Holyhead.
