The West Herts Hospitals Charity’s breast cancer appeal has hit its £200k target, thanks to generous donations and community support
St Albans: The Boot Out Breast Cancer charity has really stepped up, donating nearly £140,000 to help West Herts Hospitals Charity reach its £200,000 goal. This money will buy two Savi Scout systems, which are pretty cool. They use radar tech to find cancer within a millimeter, making surgeries a lot more precise.
These systems will be set up at St Albans City Hospital, where folks from all over West Herts, including Watford, come for treatment. Lee Min Lai, a consultant breast surgeon, shared how these systems are game-changers for surgeries. They help doctors do less invasive procedures, which is a win for patients.
Debbie Dowie, who founded Boot Out Breast Cancer, expressed her excitement about the impact of the donation. She has a personal connection to the cause, having known patients treated by Lee Min. The community really rallied around this appeal, with events like the Titty Trail raising significant funds.
Editor Michael Adkins from the Watford Observer noted how the appeal struck a chord with many people, given how breast cancer affects so many lives. The support from fundraisers and donors has been incredible, making it possible to hit the target so quickly.
Alison Rosen, CEO of West Herts Hospitals Charity, thanked everyone involved, highlighting how this support transforms breast cancer treatment in the area. It’s heartwarming to see such community spirit and generosity come together for a great cause.
