Final road closures are set as construction wraps up at Westland Roundabout, aiming to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Droitwich: The construction at Westlands Roundabout is almost done. Worcestershire County Council is wrapping up with a few final road closures.
They kicked off the work back in September after residents asked for a safer way to cross the busy A38 road.
But, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. Many locals are saying they’ve been stuck in traffic for over 30 minutes because of the ongoing work and other traffic issues nearby.
The council plans to close the central southwest part of the roundabout from 8 PM on January 15 to 6 AM on January 16.
Plus, there will be lane closures on the A442 during the day on January 16 and 17.
A council spokesperson mentioned that all work depends on the weather. They’ll also need to do a safety check before the crossing opens.
Once everything is in place, they hope traffic will ease up. The council received nearly £460,000 from Active Travel England to build this pedestrian crossing.
The new crossing will make the roundabout narrower and add traffic lights, which should help folks walking, wheeling, and cycling get around more easily.
