Southwark: Police have shared some eye-opening stats about crime in the area. They looked at December’s numbers to see which wards had the most trouble in 2024.

Borough and Bankside topped the list with a whopping 3,954 crimes. That’s a lot! The average monthly crime rate stayed pretty steady compared to 2023, with theft being the biggest issue, racking up 2,672 incidents.

Next up is London Bridge and West Bermondsey, which saw 3,797 crimes. With all the hustle and bustle, it’s no surprise thieves were busy here too, hitting 2,161 times. There was a slight drop in overall crime compared to the previous year.

North Walworth came in third with 3,640 crimes. Again, theft was the main problem, with 1,936 cases reported. It’s clear that these areas are facing some serious challenges.

Rye Lane, in fourth place, had 2,111 crimes. While theft was the most common, there were also a lot of violent incidents, with 469 reported. Crime here dipped a bit compared to 2023, which is a small relief.

Chaucer rounded out the top five with 1,944 crimes. Theft was again the leading issue, with 868 incidents. This area covers parts of Borough and north of Elephant and Castle, showing that crime is a widespread concern.

Other notable areas include Old Kent Road, Camberwell Green, and St George’s, all with significant crime rates. It’s clear that Southwark has its work cut out for it in tackling these issues.
