Wickford residents are heartbroken as New Look announces its closure this month, leaving a significant gap in the local shopping scene.
Wickford: Shoppers are feeling pretty down as New Look at the Willows Shopping Centre is shutting down for good. It’s a real bummer for the community.
The store’s closure has been confirmed by the management, and locals are calling it a big hit to the High Street. Apparently, it’s happening at the landlord’s request.
One local, Lorraine Roberts, 68, shared her sadness, saying she often shopped there and looked forward to her visits. She even bought Christmas gifts from the store this year.
She worries that the area will feel empty without it. “Where will the staff go?” she asked. She thinks people mainly come for Boots, but without shops like New Look, it might not be worth the trip.
Another resident, Katie Harper, 30, is also concerned. With New Look closing and Superdrug gone, she feels there won’t be much left for younger shoppers.
She mentioned that it all depends on what replaces the store. “If it’s better shops, that could be good,” she said, but she’s still sad about the news.
New Look has been around since 1969, offering a range of clothing for men, women, and teens. Elaine, 65, expressed her disappointment, especially for her granddaughter who loves shopping there.
She fears there won’t be much left in Wickford soon. New Look has thanked its customers for their support and encouraged them to visit their nearby store in Basildon.
A spokesperson for New Look said the Wickford store will close on January 24 and expressed gratitude to the local community for their support over the years.
They hope customers will continue shopping at their Basildon location or online at newlook.com.
