Ayr Sheriff Court is set to undergo significant window replacements to enhance safety and energy efficiency
Ayr: So, the Ayr Sheriff Court is getting a bit of a makeover. They’re planning to replace a bunch of windows that have seen better days. It’s all about keeping things safe and cozy.
Earlier this year, they approved some repairs for the courthouse’s façade because, honestly, some bits were at risk of falling off. Scaffolding has been up for a while now, making the place look a bit like a construction zone.
The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service decided it was time to fix up 60 windows that face Wellington Square and the surrounding streets. They’ve noticed that the windows are pretty worn out, thanks to the weather.
According to the planning documents, they’re swapping out the old single glazing for double-glazed units. This should help keep the heat in and the drafts out, which is a win-win.
They’re also adding draft excluders to the sliding sashes, so no more chilly breezes sneaking in. If any of the window frames are rotten, they’ll replace those too, making sure everything looks just like it did before.
When it comes to painting, they’re going for a solid exterior paint system to keep the windows looking sharp. The council planners gave the green light, saying the windows really needed some TLC.
They believe these repairs are a smart move for maintaining such an important historical building. The courthouse has been around since the early 1800s, so it’s nice to see it getting the care it deserves.
Fun fact: the original building had a prison out back, but that was taken down ages ago. Now, it’s all about keeping the courthouse in tip-top shape for years to come.
