Woman in her 70s treated for burns following arson attack in Antrim

Antrim: A woman in her 70s was hospitalized after a fire broke out at her home, believed to be an arson attack. Two good Samaritans, a man and a woman in their 40s, tried to help her escape but ended up with smoke inhalation.

The police got a call around 3:20 AM about the blaze in the Rathglynn area. They reported that the elderly woman was inside when the fire started. Thankfully, she’s getting treatment for burns on her hands and smoke inhalation.

Local councillor Roisin Lynch called the incident disgraceful, expressing disbelief that someone would target an older person. She praised the brave individuals who rushed in to help and the fire service for their quick response.

The community is understandably shaken, with many residents feeling unsafe after such a shocking event. Lynch urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that those who harm the vulnerable must be held accountable.
