A Glasgow woman convicted of child assault avoids additional penalties despite a judge’s harsh criticism of her actions
Glasgow: So, there’s this woman, Marianne Gallagher, who got into some serious trouble for assaulting a child in a drugs den. It was a pretty wild case with a lot of other people involved, and the judge didn’t hold back on calling her actions “reprehensible.”
She was found guilty after an eight-week trial, which is no small feat. The judge even said the stuff that went down was “the depths of human depravity.” Yikes! There were seven other folks involved, and they’re facing some heavy charges too, including gang rape.
Some of them were found guilty of trying to murder a child by doing some really awful things. The whole situation is just heartbreaking, and it all happened between 2012 and 2019. There were even wild claims about Satanic rituals, but those didn’t stick in court.
Out of 11 people on trial, three were let go, but Gallagher was the only one who didn’t end up on the sex offenders’ register. She got out on bail, which is surprising given the circumstances.
In court recently, they mentioned she had a baby in August and is still battling addiction. Gallagher was convicted of hitting and kicking a child, but the judge said that usually wouldn’t even make it to the High Court.
Her lawyer argued that she’s been on good behavior since her conviction, but the judge pointed out that she hasn’t really shown any remorse. Still, he decided not to impose any further punishment, which is a bit shocking considering the severity of the case.
He warned her that if she messes up again, she’ll be in big trouble. For now, she’s just been admonished, and that’s the end of it. It’s a tough situation all around, and you can’t help but feel for the kids involved.
