The Northwick Arms in Worcester supports MND Association through fundraising events and community efforts to raise awareness for motor neurone disease
Last summer, the pub’s Northwick Knights paddlers got together for a charity event called Race the Dragon on the River Severn. It was the first event of its kind since the pandemic hit, and it really brought the community together.
The whole thing was organized by the Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Team. They chose to support the MND Association after team member David Palmer lost a friend to the disease. It was a heartfelt decision that really resonated with everyone involved.
Besides the dragon boat race, David’s duo, This Is The Life, hosted a fundraising night at the pub. They played a mix of tunes from the 1960s to more modern hits, and it was a blast! They even set up a JustGiving page for the event and managed to exceed their £500 target.
The Knights have been busy with other fundraising efforts too, like raffles and collection boxes. Plus, they’ve sent out a cuddly penguin named Wick on adventures around Europe and the UK to raise awareness about the disease.
Wick’s journey was inspired by the Great Waddle of Worcester, which featured a charity penguin trail and auction for St Richard’s Hospice. It’s all about community spirit and making a difference, and it’s heartwarming to see everyone come together for such a worthy cause.
