Improvements to footpaths in Llanidloes aim to enhance safety for students and promote active travel.
The plan is to widen these paths so both pedestrians and cyclists can use them safely. They’re also adding new crossings, zebra crossings, and speed bumps, plus sprucing up existing routes and a bus stop.
This project is set to start in January and should take about 12 weeks to finish. It’s just the first step in a bigger plan to enhance active travel routes around town.
Cllr Jackie Charlton, who’s all about greener initiatives in Powys, mentioned that this project will really help families with kids at the schools. It’s not just about safety; it’s also about encouraging families to walk instead of driving, which is better for everyone’s health and the environment.
The Welsh Government is pushing for active travel to be the go-to option for short trips, and this project is a big part of that vision. They’re promising to keep disruptions low with traffic management during the work. A big thanks to everyone for their patience while they get this done!
