A Christmas cake laced with arsenic flour led to the tragic deaths of three women in Brazil, with the daughter-in-law as the prime suspect.
Torres: A shocking incident unfolded in Brazil where a Christmas cake turned deadly. It was made with flour contaminated with arsenic, and sadly, three women lost their lives.
The main suspect is Deise Moura, the daughter-in-law of one of the victims, Zeli dos Anjos. She’s been arrested on serious charges, including murder.
Deise allegedly baked the cake at Zeli’s home and brought it to a family gathering on December 23. The cake was consumed by Zeli and her sisters, Maida and Neuza, who all suffered cardiac arrest shortly after eating it.
Tragically, Maida and Neuza, aged 58 and 65, along with Neuza’s daughter Tatiana, 43, died from the poisoning. Zeli, who also ate the cake, is in the hospital but is stable now.
It’s been reported that Zeli’s great-nephew, Matheus, was also hospitalized but has since been released. The police are investigating the family dynamics, which were reportedly harmonious until recent disagreements.
Forensic tests revealed that the flour contained arsenic levels 2,700 times higher than normal. The police chief mentioned they have strong evidence linking Deise to the crime.
As the investigation continues, it’s clear that this tragic event has shaken the family and the community. Meanwhile, another food poisoning case in Brazil is under investigation, highlighting ongoing concerns about food safety.
