Dorothy ‘Dossie’ Davies celebrated her 80th birthday with 150 guests, raising £1,277 for charity instead of receiving gifts.
Builth Wells: Dorothy Davies, known as Dossie, just turned 80. Instead of gifts, she asked guests to donate to charity. Dossie calls the Wales Air Ambulance a lifeline for rural Powys.
She celebrated with 150 friends and family at the Royal Welsh Showground. Dossie raised £1,277 for the Wales Air Ambulance, which she deeply supports.
Dossie already has everything she needs. She wanted her birthday to help others. She said, “This charity is vital for people of all ages in our area.”
Guests enjoyed a fun evening with entertainment from the Radnor Twurzels and a tasty buffet from Fingers and Forks Catering. Dossie is a proud mother and grandmother.
She has donated to the Wales Air Ambulance before, including £1,000 in memory of her late husband. Dossie also supports the Alzheimer’s Society.
She mentioned, “Living in a remote part of Wales, it’s a lifeline for us.” Dossie worked as a district nurse for nearly 40 years and received an MBE for her services.
Kate Thomas from Wales Air Ambulance thanked Dossie and her family for their generous donations. She praised Dossie’s thoughtful gesture for her birthday.
The Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £11.2 million each year to operate. They provide emergency care and transport patients to the right hospitals.
