Suffolk: The #IsYourLicenceWorthIt campaign ran from December 1 to January 1. It aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drink driving.

The campaign focused on everyday drink drivers. These are people who think they’re fine to drive after a night out but are still over the limit.

During the month, officers stopped 2,366 vehicles. They breathalysed 1,986 drivers and conducted 379 drug tests.

After testing, 72 people were arrested for positive breath tests or refusing to test. Another 88 were arrested for positive drug tests.

Of those who failed, 84% were male, and 21% were under 25. This is up from 14% last year.

Tim Passmore, Suffolk’s police and crime commissioner, expressed concern. He noted that 160 people risked their lives and others by driving impaired.

Chief Inspector Vicky McParland highlighted the increase in young offenders. She stressed the need to understand the serious consequences of impaired driving.

Tim Passmore also voiced frustration over the number of impaired drivers. He noted that many young drivers ignore warnings about the dangers of driving under the influence.

He hopes these results will encourage people to think about the impact of losing their license on their daily lives.
