Plans for traffic lights at the A360 Black Dog Crossroads are finally advancing, aiming to improve safety after years of accidents
Wiltshire: The council has been working on installing traffic lights at the A360 Black Dog Crossroads since July 2023. This comes after a string of accidents raised serious safety concerns.
They’ve been chatting with Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks about getting the power sorted out for the lights. Until that’s done, they can’t move forward with the installation.
Cllr Nick Holder, the highways cabinet member, shared in an email that they finally reached an agreement with the utility company. It’s been a bit of a wait, but they’re making progress.
They expect to have the electricity supply ready by this summer, which is a relief. Initially, they hoped to kick off construction in the summer, but now it looks like the main work won’t start until autumn.
Holder mentioned that the actual installation of the traffic lights should happen in Autumn 2025, right after the power supply is set up. It’s a long wait, and some folks are getting anxious.
Michael Maxwell, a road safety campaigner, has been pushing for these lights for years. He’s worried about the potential for serious accidents before the lights are finally installed.
He’s been vocal about his fears, saying it’s only a matter of time before something tragic happens at that junction. He really wants to see the council act quickly to prevent any more accidents.
