Aberdeen is gearing up for an exciting event with 50 tall ships expected to dock, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors this July
Aberdeen: Organisers are really excited about the upcoming Tall Ships Races. They’re aiming to bring in 50 tall ships to the Port of Aberdeen, and they expect a huge crowd—around 400,000 visitors! That’s a lot of people.
The event will feature 17 Class A tall ships, and it’s happening from July 19 to 22. It’s going to be a sight to see!
Race registration is still open until May 1. Some of the latest ships to sign up include the Mexican Navy’s Cuauhtémoc and Poland’s Fryderyk Chopin. There’s even a cool three-masted schooner from Denmark.
This year’s Tall Ships Races will take the fleet through several ports, including Le Havre and Dunkirk, before arriving in Aberdeen. It’s shaping up to be an unforgettable summer celebration.
Vanessa Mori from Sail Training International mentioned that all the host ports will offer amazing experiences, but it looks like Aberdeen is going to be the main attraction. The city’s rich maritime history and friendly vibe make it a perfect spot for these stunning ships and their crews.
It’s being called Europe’s largest free family event, and it’s expected to be Aberdeen’s biggest event in a generation. How cool is that?
Councillor Martin Greig shared his excitement too, saying it’s a great time to look forward to all the magnificent vessels coming to the city. With 44 ships already confirmed, it’s going to be a fantastic boost for Aberdeen’s economy and culture.
Bob Sanguinetti, the CEO of Port of Aberdeen, is thrilled with the response from the Tall Ships fleet. He can’t wait to welcome the international crews and show them what Aberdeen has to offer.
Plus, there are already over 900 people wanting to volunteer and 300 young folks hoping to join a crew. Applications for sail trainees and volunteers are open until January 31, so there’s still time to get involved!
