The Berkshire pub on Abingdon Road is now up for sale, just months after shutting down due to parking issues and financial struggles
Abingdon: The Berkshire, a family-run pub on Abingdon Road, closed its doors in June 2024. Now, it’s back on the market for around £550,000.
This two-story building has a cozy front bar that can seat about 30 people. You can access it right from Abingdon Road. There are also toilets for convenience.
Inside, there’s another area that can fit another 30 guests, with access from Vicarage Road. Plus, there’s a back area with seating for 30 more, leading to a lovely patio garden.
Interestingly, the Berkshire wasn’t the only spot to close. Akiport Café and Akiport Convenience Store, all owned by the same family, shut down on the same day. They cited double yellow lines as a major reason for their decision.
At the time, Aldonio, the café manager, expressed his sadness, saying the business just didn’t seem viable anymore. He mentioned how important their café was to the elderly folks in the area.
City councillor Anna Railton called it a “massive shame” and even reached out to the family, hoping they’d reconsider their decision.
According to Oxfordshire County Council, the changes to Abingdon Road were meant to make it safer for cyclists. You can check out the pub listing online if you’re interested.
