London: So, guess what? The average salary for advertised jobs has finally crossed the £40,000 mark. Can you believe it? This is a big deal, especially since it’s the first time we’ve seen this happen.

According to Adzuna, the job market is buzzing with demand for skilled workers. But here’s the kicker: employers are a bit hesitant to hire. The average salary jumped from about £37,577 just last year. Pretty impressive, right?

But hold on, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. There are two job seekers for every open position, and it’s taking longer to fill those jobs—almost two days longer than before. Now, that’s a bit of a bummer.

Interestingly, jobs in the legal field are filled the quickest, taking about 31 days. On the flip side, roles in domestic help and cleaning take the longest, around 38 days. Healthcare and nursing aren’t far behind at 37 days.

Now, here’s where it gets tricky. Over half of employers aren’t even listing pay details in their job ads. Can you imagine? Adzuna pointed out that 2024 is shaping up to be the worst year for salary transparency we’ve ever seen.

Andrew Hunter, one of the co-founders of Adzuna, mentioned that job seekers might be feeling a bit let down. After a little boost in job availability last November, vacancies have dropped again in December. It seems like the holiday season has slowed things down.

However, some sectors, like teaching, are still seeing a lot of job openings. Legal, logistics, warehouse, and sales roles have also seen an annual increase compared to last year. So, there’s still hope!

While companies might not be hiring as much, they’re definitely willing to pay more. The average advertised salary has hit over £40,000 for the first time since Adzuna started tracking the UK job market back in 2016. That’s a win for job seekers, even if the transparency isn’t quite there.
