The owners of Alyth Hotel are heartbroken after thieves stole £500 in tips and other valuables during a break-in last week
Alyth: The owners of The Alyth Hotel are feeling pretty crushed right now. Thieves broke in and made off with around £500 in staff tips, plus some expensive whisky. It all went down last Thursday night, right after a busy pub quiz.
Hazel Lightbody, who runs the hotel with her husband Alisdair, said they’re devastated. They just took over the place a few months ago, and this break-in has really hit them hard. To make matters worse, they think the thieves might have even tried to break into their home that same night.
Hazel got a call from their landlady saying someone was trying to force their front door open. Thankfully, they didn’t get in, but it’s still super worrying. She mentioned how stressful and upsetting this whole situation has been for them.
They’ve put in a ton of effort to get the hotel up and running, and losing the tips is a real blow. Hazel said it’s financially crippling, especially since they can’t just replace the stolen money. It’s just so disheartening when you’re trying to make a fresh start.
The couple suspects that the thieves knew the hotel’s layout. Hazel pointed out that it seems like whoever did this had a plan, which is really unsettling. They were away for a short break after the busy holiday season, so it looks like the thieves knew they wouldn’t be around.
Now, they’re just hoping the police can catch the culprits. They’re reviewing CCTV footage from nearby businesses, so fingers crossed something comes of that. Despite everything, Hazel mentioned how supportive the local community has been, which is a silver lining in this tough time.
