Aberystwyth: So, here’s the scoop. Residents are pretty ticked off because the council took away their traffic cones. They were using these cones to save parking spots, which has been a real issue for a while now.

The council had warned them that using cones could lead to some serious trouble, even jail time. Can you believe that? They sent a letter saying it was an obstruction of the highway. But the folks on Maes yr Afon just wanted a place to park their cars, especially since many of them are elderly or disabled.

Instead of helping, the council told them to use a pay-and-display lot nearby. That didn’t sit well with the residents, who were willing to pay for permits to park on their own street. But the council just brushed that idea off.

Some residents kept putting the cones out anyway, hoping the council would come up with a better solution. But then, out of nowhere, the council swooped in and took the cones while no one was looking. Talk about sneaky!

Cllr Mair Benjamin, a local councilor, called the whole situation “ridiculous.” She was really upset about the cones being taken and said it felt wrong to force residents to park in a pay-and-display lot instead of letting them have their own spaces.

Residents are furious and wondering if the council is doing the same thing in other areas. A council spokesperson said they had to remove the cones because they were blocking the highway. But it seems like the residents just want a fair chance to park near their homes.
