The Lincoln Lovelies gathered for a festive Burns Night celebration, enjoying haggis and games at the Lincoln Inn Bar in Knightswood
Knightswood: The Lincoln Lovelies, a local group, meets every Monday at the Lincoln Inn Bar. They’re all about keeping social and having a good time, especially this week as they celebrated Burns Night a bit early.
Denise Taylor, who runs the pub with her husband, thought it would be great to create a space for older folks to gather. So, she set up this fun group where they can enjoy games and entertainment together.
The bar was decked out with flags and banners for the occasion. Denise shared that she wanted to bring in more elderly people, inspired by her gran’s activities. That’s how the Lincoln Lovelies came to be!
They even hired a local DJ to keep the vibe lively, and the pub covers all the costs. Members get to enjoy soup and sandwiches, plus they throw big events for Christmas, Halloween, and Easter.
About 60 people show up regularly, making it a lively gathering. The group started just before the pandemic but has grown since then, welcoming everyone from 30 to 95 years old.
Jessie Baird, 82, has been coming for nearly six years. She loves the bingo and karaoke, but the quiz is her favorite. Margaret McFadyen, 78, enjoys the fun atmosphere and the company, while Nan Cadden, 83, appreciates the friendships they’ve built.
Helen Jago, also 83, mentioned how nice it is to be out and about, especially in the cold weather. They even plan bus trips, making it a great way to stay connected.
The Lincoln Lovelies meet every Monday from 12:30 PM to 4 PM, and they fundraise for their trips, all while having a blast at the pub.
