Skipton: There’s a cool new project happening where Skipton and Harrogate are trading artworks. It’s the first time this kind of thing is going down, and it’s all about bringing fresh vibes to the exhibitions in both towns.

They’re moving 15 pieces from the Mercer Art Gallery in Harrogate to Skipton Town Hall for an exhibition called ‘Take Your Time.’ It’s all about encouraging folks to really take a moment and appreciate the art.

In return, three pieces from Skipton will be showcased in Harrogate. This is a big deal since it’s the first cultural exchange since North Yorkshire Council started up in April 2023.

Councillor Simon Myers, who’s in charge of culture and leisure, mentioned how this partnership is all about creating engaging experiences for the community. He’s excited to see the artworks in new settings that inspire people.

Some standout pieces at Skipton include a lovely painting of Malham Cove by local artist Katharine Holmes, along with works by Arthur Reginald Smith, who’s also from Skipton.

Megan Hickes, the exhibitions curator at Skipton Town Hall, said they want to create a thoughtful experience. She believes that by taking time to explore, visitors can connect with the art on a personal level.

At the Mercer Art Gallery, there’s an exhibition called Look, Look Again, featuring works from various collections, including the Harrogate Art Collection and the Goldmark Gallery. It’s a great chance to see some amazing 20th-century British art.

Curator Karen Southworth shared that they’ve got some recent donations that really highlight the creativity of that era. The combination of these collections is sure to make for a vibrant display.

Both exhibitions kick off on January 22, with ‘Take Your Time’ running until April 21 in Skipton and ‘Look, Look Again’ in Harrogate until April 4. It’s going to be a fantastic opportunity for art lovers!
