The Auchinleck Leisure Community Committee shares positive news about the center’s future, raising hopes among locals for its revival
Auchinleck: The Auchinleck Leisure Community Committee (ALCC) has been working hard to save the local leisure center. They managed to secure some funding for an independent report to assess the building’s condition. This was all in hopes of stopping the planned demolition.
Last year, the pool and center closed down after East Ayrshire Council found parts of it unsafe. This news didn’t sit well with the locals, who gathered to protest the closure.
Recently, the committee shared an update that the report came back “extremely positive.” They’re planning to meet with council officials soon to discuss the findings.
According to the ALCC, the feasibility study looked at the building’s condition and the costs to bring it back to life. The results were encouraging, and they’re excited about the next steps.
Despite the good news, East Ayrshire Council still plans to go ahead with demolishing the site. They want to build a new sports complex with pitches at Merlin Park, but those plans have been delayed.
