A tragic incident in Banbury as a young man with mental health struggles is found dead, highlighting the need for better support.
Banbury: Kudzai Mheta, a 25-year-old from Hightown Road, tragically passed away on September 25 last year. His death occurred on Swan Close Road, and it’s a heartbreaking story.
An inquest took place at Oxford Coroner’s Court on January 20. It revealed that Kudzai, originally from Zimbabwe, had been battling significant mental health issues.
He was hearing voices and had thoughts of suicide, which is just so sad. After a post-mortem, it was determined that he died by hanging, and toxicology reports showed high alcohol levels in his system.
Back in August, Kudzai had visited the Horton General Hospital in Banbury because he was worried about his drinking and the voices he was hearing. He was referred to a mental health team after expressing feelings of hopelessness.
To make matters worse, he had lost his job a few months before his death, adding to his stress. The community mental health team noted he was under a lot of pressure.
According to a police report, there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. The coroner, Nicholas Graham, concluded it was a suicide and extended his condolences to Kudzai’s family.
