Bournemouth: BCP Council is set to raise council tax by 4.99% for 2025/26. This increase needs approval but will affect many residents.

This marks the third consecutive year of maximum tax hikes. Since 2021/22, council tax has risen over 20% in five years.

Currently, Band D taxpayers pay £1,767. This could jump to about £1,855 starting in April.

In comparison, Dorset Council’s Band D taxpayers pay £2,001, which is 13% more than BCP Council.

The upcoming rise includes a 2% increase for social care and a 2.99% hike in general tax.

Council leader Millie Earl mentioned rising demands for services, especially in social care, are straining budgets.

Other local councils are also considering tax increases. Christchurch town council wants a 3.02% rise, raising costs to £1,927.76.

Burton and Winkton residents may see a 5.91% increase, totaling £1,873.68. Hurn residents face a 4.02% rise to £1,890.31.

In Bournemouth, some areas will see a 2.64% decrease, bringing their total to £1,894.13 for Band D.

Decisions on tax increases for Bournemouth and Poole’s charter trustees are still pending.

Overall, residents should prepare for a significant rise in council tax this coming year.
