Milford: Storms Herminia and Eowyn caused huge waves and flooding. They destroyed at least a dozen beach huts at Hordle Cliffs.

A reader named Chris Mabey shared footage of the damage. He saw the waves crashing against the beach huts while walking his dog, Archie.

Chris mentioned that the huts looked like they would be completely ruined. These beach huts are a well-known part of the coast.

The beach huts are located at Hordle Cliff east. This area had 31 damaged huts removed by the New Forest District Council last June.

Storm Eowyn brought heavy rain and strong winds, likely causing initial damage. Storm Herminia followed, bringing more rain and wind.

Chris noted that some beach huts have been in families for generations. It’s sad to see them destroyed.

One resident commented online about watching chunks of the cliff crumble into the sea during their walk.

The beach huts are in a section of coastline not actively defended by the council. Owners pay an annual fee for their huts but handle repairs themselves.

In the last five years, around 70 beach huts have been lost or removed due to safety concerns.

The New Forest District Council has been contacted for comments. A spokesperson previously stated that the area is set for managed realignment, meaning changes will continue.
