Big Love Festival is set to expand in 2025, partnering with Uganda’s Nyege Nyege Festival to showcase East African culture and music.
Thanks to a British Council grant, Big Love will grow bigger in 2025. They’re partnering with Uganda’s Nyege Nyege Festival, which is famous for celebrating East African arts.
The collaboration started in November 2024. Big Love’s team traveled to Uganda to work with local artists and refugees. They shared their skills in site decoration and helped local craftspeople enhance the festival’s visual appeal.
Plans are underway to bring a taste of Nyege Nyege to Wales. Big Love’s creative director, David Robertson, shared his thoughts on the experience in Uganda.
David mentioned they spent two weeks in Uganda, arriving just before the festival. He was impressed by the friendliness of the people and the beauty of the country.
Despite some challenges, the team learned a lot. They brought décor from home and sourced materials from local markets, working with artists and refugees from Congo and Sudan.
For the 2025 festival, David aims to bring high-quality performers and artists from East Africa to Wales. He believes this will add a new dimension to Big Love, showcasing the rich talent from the region.
Tickets for this year’s Big Love Festival are now on sale. The event runs from July 17 to 20.
