A Blackburn man crashed his car while heavily intoxicated, leading to jail time and a driving ban.
Blackburn: Andrew Taylor crashed his Mini One into a parked car. He was breathalyzed and found to be nearly four times over the legal limit.
This happened on June 21. Taylor blew 134 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.
At 38 years old, Taylor lives on Hollin Bridge Street. He pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol and without insurance.
He received a 16-week jail sentence and a five-year driving ban. The judge noted the crash could have had worse consequences.
Deputy District Judge Andrew Wallace emphasized that it was fortunate no one was seriously hurt. He mentioned the potential danger to children and other road users.
Police were alerted to the crash on Whalley New Road around 6 PM. A bystander identified Taylor as the driver.
Taylor has a history of drink driving, with convictions in 2014, 2015, and 2021. His lawyer acknowledged that a custodial sentence was expected.
He also mentioned that Taylor’s mental health had declined recently, leading to his admission to a mental health unit.
On a positive note, Taylor has not consumed alcohol since December 9.
