Blackburn with Darwen: A new service just kicked off to help folks stay healthy and keep their jobs. It’s all about supporting people who might be struggling due to health issues.

This initiative is part of a government effort to get people back into work. It’s tailored for anyone over 18 who’s at risk of losing their job or has had to step away because of health problems.

Last year, Lancashire and South Cumbria were picked as one of the regions to test out this WorkWell service. If you live, work, or are registered with a GP in Blackburn with Darwen, you might be eligible.

To qualify, you need to meet certain criteria, like being out of work for less than six months or needing help to return to your job. It’s also for those who are currently employed but off sick or having a tough time at work due to health issues.

However, this service isn’t for people with complex health needs or those who have been out of work for a long time.

Cllr Damian Talbot, the public health boss, shared that WorkWell could really change lives. He emphasized that this free support can help people stay healthy and independent, which is something we all want.

Plus, you can refer yourself without needing to go through a GP, which makes it easier. The goal is to help those with health conditions get back to work or stay in their current jobs, addressing health inequalities in the area.

Amy Greenhalgh, the borough programme lead, added that WorkWell is designed to assist people with physical and mental health conditions. They’ll get a work and health coach for up to 12 weeks to help set clear goals that meet their needs.

Now that the program is fully launched, they want everyone who qualifies to take advantage of this opportunity. You can refer yourself through the refreshbwd website or your local GP, and they’re also collaborating with local employers.

This initiative is also expanding to other areas in Lancashire, including Ribble Valley, Hyndburn, Burnley, Pendle, and Rossendale.
