A five-year-old boy tragically died after running into traffic while searching for his brothers in Cornwall
Cornwall: A five-year-old boy named Dexter Chapman was killed in a tragic accident. He ran into a busy road while looking for his older brothers. This happened in April last year on the A390 road at Penpillick Hill.
Dexter was playing in the front yard with his siblings. When his brothers went to a neighbor’s garden, he decided to find them. Still in his school uniform, he headed down a path toward the main road.
Witnesses saw him standing on the grass verge, looking both ways. Unfortunately, he misjudged the speed of an approaching car. The driver was going about 45 mph and couldn’t stop in time.
The driver described the moment as happening in a split second. He saw Dexter run out and braked hard, but it was too late. Despite efforts from passing drivers, Dexter suffered severe injuries and died at the scene.
His parents remembered him as a happy and active child who loved to play outside. The coroner concluded that Dexter likely didn’t have enough experience crossing roads. He was just trying to find his brothers.
