A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the murder of Billy McNicholl, whose body was found in Ipswich on New Year’s Day
Ipswich: On New Year’s Day, police found the body of William McNicholl, known as Billy, at a home on Hawthorn Drive. It was a shocking discovery for the community.
After the body was found, police were all over the place, with cars and forensics vans searching the area. They were checking CCTV footage and gathering evidence.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Billy died from head injuries and a stab wound. Authorities believe he was killed on Christmas Day, which is just heartbreaking.
On Wednesday morning, a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder. He’s now at Martlesham police station being questioned by detectives.
Earlier, a woman in her 50s was also arrested but is currently out on bail, with a return date set for April 9.
As part of the investigation, dive teams searched the River Orwell near Princes Street. Police are also asking drivers to check their dashcam footage from Christmas Day for any clues.
Detective Inspector Mark Hughes is urging anyone with information to come forward. He emphasized the importance of helping Billy’s friends and family by sharing any details.
The community is still reeling from this tragic event. Local councillor Nadia Cenci expressed her sadness, saying Billy was a beloved member of the community.
