Bradford Council’s vehicle-related incident costs have risen, totaling over £1.5 million in five years, with significant payouts for damages and injuries.
Bradford: The Telegraph & Argus asked Bradford Council about their vehicle incident costs. They wanted to know how much the Council spent from 2020 to 2024 on repairs and compensation for accidents.
Over five years, the Council spent £867,539.67 on vehicle damage claims. They also paid £192,804 for personal injury claims. Overall, the total payouts have increased during this time.
In 2020/21, the Council paid £146,783.62. So far in 2024/25, that amount has jumped to £309,836.70. The highest spending year was 2022/23, with a total of £441,314.51.
In total, Bradford Council has paid out £1,533,537.51 over five years. A spokesperson mentioned that most claims are defended successfully, and some take longer to resolve.
For property damage claims, the Council spent £33,972.50. They also had £385,163.69 in other costs and £54,057.26 for solicitors’ fees during the same period.
The spokesperson explained that all claims are fully investigated. Compensation is paid only if the Council is found liable. They noted that some claims can take years to settle, affecting average costs.
