Meet Alfie Barraclough, a young drag racer aiming for world records in a new CBBC show
Bradford: Camera crews followed Alfie Barraclough for a year. This young motorcycle drag racer from Thornton is on a quest to become the “fastest boy in the world.”
He made headlines as a land speed world record holder at just nine years old. Now, he’s pushing himself to break that record again.
Alfie even set a new world record alongside his best mate Jack, who rode in a sidecar. How cool is that?
Living with ADHD and autism, Alfie calls his unique traits his “superpowers.” They help him focus before big races.
His dad, Karl, has been into drag racing for 45 years. He knew Alfie was special from the moment he started racing. “You just get that feeling,” he said.
Karl is proud but also a bit nervous about what the future holds. “The world’s his oyster,” he added, noting that once Alfie turns 18, the sky’s the limit.
Alfie dreams of hitting 350 miles per hour on a motorbike someday. He’s also super curious about engineering and how things work.
He’s already eyeing the competition, saying, “When I’m older, I’ll go higher than that.”
One of his heroes, Bubba Myers, recognized Alfie’s talent, saying he’s “cut out for this” life. That’s some serious praise!
Alfie hopes to ride on the salt flats in America when he’s older. His dad says Alfie is always looking ahead, asking, “What’s next?”
He gets super focused before races, tuning everything out. People notice how intensely he concentrates, especially with his ADHD and autism.
Karl believes everyone is on the spectrum to some degree. The documentary, “My Life,” airs on CBBC at 6pm tonight and is also available on iPlayer.
