Team Diamond from Bradford shines bright, winning gold at the British Championships in Nottingham with an inspiring performance
It’s pretty cool because they were up against two other teams, who scored 14 and 12 points. The competition was tough, but they really brought their A-game.
Head coach Adrian Jack was over the moon about their win, especially since the team only formed last year. He mentioned how incredible it is that they achieved this in such a short time.
The team is inclusive, meaning at least half of the skaters have additional needs. Some of the members face challenges like being deaf or having learning difficulties.
They started training last May with just a handful of skaters, but as more joined, they built up their routine and aimed for the championships.
Jack had hoped they’d score around 12 points, so getting 19 was a huge surprise. He said it was a special moment for everyone involved, especially the families.
Watching the video of their performance, he reflected on the challenges the skaters face daily. Some even wear special earplugs to help with noise sensitivity.
The atmosphere in the arena was intense, but they managed to focus and perform beautifully.
Team Diamond, which includes members like Captain Jenny and others, is gearing up for their next competition in Sheffield. They’re also looking for new skaters, especially those with additional needs, to join their journey in skating.
