Tom Alexander, a local hero, was honored for rescuing dogs from a fire, showcasing true bravery and community spirit.
Halesowen: Last August, Tom Alexander, a dedicated member of Dudley Council’s waste management team, was at home when a fire erupted next door. He didn’t hesitate for a second.
This 35-year-old dad of four rushed in to save his neighbor’s dogs from the flames. Talk about bravery!
Recently, Tom received an award from the West Midlands Fire Service for his quick thinking. The Mayor of Dudley, Hilary Bills, was so impressed that she invited him to her office for a special meeting.
Tom brought his wife and kids along, and they all still live on the same street, keeping in touch with their neighbor.
During the meeting, Mayor Bills expressed how proud the community is to have someone like Tom on their refuse team. She said it was an honor to hear about his selfless act.
Tom shared that meeting the mayor was a great experience. He still finds it hard to believe what happened that day. He mentioned how the fire affected everyone on the street but insisted he didn’t see himself as a hero. He just wanted to help.
