Kent: Brian Murphy passed away at home on Sunday morning. His friend, Thomas Bowington, described him as a joyful and good-hearted man.

Born in 1932 on the Isle of Wight, Murphy started acting in the 1950s. He joined the Theatre Workshop, which aimed to modernize theatre for working-class audiences.

Murphy starred in many Shakespeare plays directed by Joan Littlewood. He also acted in her film, Sparrows Can’t Sing, a kitchen sink comedy.

He was best known for his role in the 1970s sitcom Man About the House. The show focused on a man living with two women in a flat-sharing situation.

His popularity led to a spin-off, George and Mildred, where he played George Roper alongside actress Yootha Joyce.

Murphy also appeared in BBC’s Holby City, The Catherine Tate Show, ITV’s Benidorm, and Last of the Summer Wine.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Regan, and their two sons. Linda expressed her love, saying she found her soulmate in Brian.
