Leo Woodall reveals Roxster, his character in the new Bridget Jones movie, was originally intended to be Scottish for the role.
The movie occurs four years after Mark Darcy’s death, leaving Bridget single again. Hugh Grant is back as Daniel Cleaver, despite the third film seemingly killing him off.
Woodall spoke on The Graham Norton Show and said Roxster should have been Scottish. He prepared a Scottish accent for the audition, but they changed their minds after his audition.
Woodall didn’t really meet Hugh Grant during filming, although both attended the premiere on January 29. When people asked Woodall about Hugh Grant, he said he didn’t know him and that he felt too shy to say hello.
Renee Zellweger hoped for Grant’s return and was surprised because his character died, but bringing Daniel Cleaver back was a good choice. They found him alive at the end of the third film.
Zellweger said Bridget deals with grief in her own way. She feels that life includes grief at this stage, and a little struggle makes the story authentic.
The film is based on Helen Fielding’s 2013 book, which is also titled Mad About The Boy. In the book, Bridget Jones is a widow in her 50s with two children.
