Get ready for an exciting musical experience with Britten Sinfonia at Peterborough and Ely Cathedrals featuring special guests and a relaxed atmosphere
Peterborough: The Britten Sinfonia is gearing up for a unique concert experience at Peterborough Cathedral and Ely Cathedral. They’ll be joined by some fantastic guests, making it a real treat.
This immersive concert will feature the vocal ensemble Tenebrae, saxophonist Amy Dickson, and oud player Joseph Tawadros. Plus, local bands like Thundersley Brass Band and Soham Comrades Band will add to the fun.
Each concert will have three stages set up around the cathedral, with short pieces flowing seamlessly into one another. It’s all about creating a musical journey for the audience.
Expect some well-known pieces like Handel’s Zadok the Priest and Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man. The setup will be cozy, with most seats replaced by mats, so feel free to bring a cushion and get comfy!
Families are welcome, making it a great way to introduce kids to classical music. Meurig Bowen, the chief executive and artistic director, wants to change how people view classical music, making it more accessible and enjoyable.
He mentioned that the concert format is designed to be less formal, allowing everyone to relax and enjoy the music in their own way. It’s all about creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Mark your calendars for March 21, 2025, at Ely Cathedral and March 22, 2025, at Peterborough Cathedral. Tickets are available on a ‘pay what you can’ basis, so everyone can join in on the fun!
