A Broughton man stole bedding worth £220 from a Next store, facing court for his actions and previous missed court dates
Broughton: So, there’s this guy, Stephen Holland, who got himself into a bit of trouble. He showed up in Wrexham Magistrates Court recently.
This 44-year-old dude admitted to swiping four sets of bed linen from Next, which added up to about £220. Not a great move, right?
He also missed a couple of court dates, which didn’t help his case. The prosecutor, Rhian Jackson, shared that staff at Next spotted him with the stolen goods in his bag.
They kept an eye on him as he casually walked out without paying. But the police were quick to catch up and got the bedding back.
Turns out, Holland has quite the record—33 convictions for 68 previous offences, with six of those being thefts. Not exactly a clean slate!
His lawyer, Ceri Lewis, explained that he missed his court dates because he lost his paperwork and got confused about the dates. Life can be a bit messy sometimes.
She mentioned that he was struggling financially and felt he had no choice but to steal to get by. He wasn’t doing it for a habit, just trying to survive.
In the end, the Magistrates fined him £80 for the theft and £40 for missing court. He also has to pay a victim surcharge and some costs. Hopefully, he can turn things around now.
