Calderdale Council’s latest health and safety report shows a small rise in workplace accidents, but overall safety measures remain effective.
Calderdale: The latest health and safety report from Calderdale Council shows a slight uptick in employee accidents compared to last year. It’s not a huge jump, but it’s something they’re keeping an eye on.
The Council is proactive, providing staff with solid accident prevention tips. They focus on educating everyone and tackling the main culprits of workplace accidents, like slips, trips, falls, and injuries from manual handling.
Interestingly, the number of reportable incidents has also seen a small rise. Councillors noted a minor increase in public accidents, but thankfully, the overall numbers are still low, which reflects well on their safety management.
On a positive note, Calderdale has seen fewer accidents involving school pupils this past year. Out of the nine reportable incidents involving staff, three were due to handling injuries, while two were related to violence, including one incident with a school pupil.
Slips, trips, and falls were the most common issues reported by employees, with 36 incidents logged, which is up from last year. Public incidents also increased slightly, with eight of the ten involving trips or falls.
In schools, 62 pupil accidents were reported, which is a drop of 20 from the previous year. Most of these were playground-related, showing that safety measures are making a difference.
