Beeston and Hunslet seek public art sites. Residents can suggest locations for murals.
Beeston: There are more public art murals popping up on gable end walls. Now, Beeston and Hunslet are working on a list of approved sites for public art.
Do you have a wall or site that could be great for public art? Or do you know a spot the Council should check out?
Cllr Paul Wray from Hunslet and Riverside said public art helps improve areas. He believes it boosts local wellbeing and encourages economic activity.
More public art can reduce issues like antisocial behavior and litter. It can also improve how people feel about their neighborhoods.
Work will start soon to identify areas for public art approval. This will help with planning and ensure quick responses from residents and site owners.
Once approved, these spaces can attract artists and funding. Local groups can also share their ideas for using these sites.
Cllr Wray emphasized that artists will still need to consult and get final approval for their work. A managed approach will help ensure quality and prevent the removal of unapproved artworks.
If you have ideas, email paul.wray@leeds.gov.uk. Your suggestions will be added to the site evaluation visits.
This information comes from a press release by Cllr Paul Wray.
