Watford A41 roundabout may get cameras. This is to enforce bus gate rules, penalizing unauthorized vehicles. Consultation is open for resident feedback.
A survey checked vehicles using the bus route between Northwestern Avenue and Leavesden Green. They found only 42 buses out of 359 vehicles. The survey happened on one specific day.
Residents will get asked about new rules penalizing unauthorized vehicles. The changes aim to improve the bus gate markings.
Emergency vehicles, bikes, and authorized vehicles can still use it.
The county council reports more roundabout collisions, calling the area a collision hotspot in their documents. Benefits include safer passage for buses and emergency vehicles. Bus journeys will face less disruption, with fewer buses being late or canceled. Moreover, traffic management will improve.
Councillor Asif Khan wants residents to share their views, saying illegal road use frustrates people and creates congestion and safety problems. Khan has pushed for this enforcement a long time.
Google Maps says the detour, which avoids the bus gate and covers 0.6 miles from the A41, takes two minutes.
The consultation runs from February 6 to March 20. Residents should email tro.team@hertfordshire.gov.uk with feedback.
Councillor Khan supports local resident concerns and fights for fair traffic rule enforcement. People should participate in the consultation and share their views.
