Bromley Council is closing Canterbury Close for a new three-storey flat development, following a planning appeal approval.
Beckenham: Canterbury Close is about to be closed off by Bromley Council. This means it won’t be a road anymore. They’re doing this to build a three-storey building with five flats and some parking.
It’s been a bit of a journey. The council got the green light after an appeal in July 2022, even though the first application was turned down. So, they’re moving forward with the plans now.
The council’s closure order is based on the Town and Country Planning Act from 1990. This allows them to shut the road so the building can go ahead.
If you want to see the order, just shoot an email to highway.planning@bromley.gov.uk. They made the announcement on January 22, and if anyone’s not happy about it, they have six weeks to raise a fuss.
But there are rules. Challenges can only be made if the order doesn’t follow the law or if any regulations haven’t been met. If someone wants to contest it, they’ll need to go to the High Court.
This news follows Bromley Council’s decision to approve the development after the appeal. The original application was DC/21/00292/FULL1, which got a thumbs down at first but was later approved.
The final decision came on July 5, 2022, and it was shared by Tasnim Shawkat, who’s in charge of corporate services at the council.
